CDC Recommendations for the Swine Flu (H1N1)

1. It is recommended by the CDC that all pregnant patients receive the regular flu vaccine and the Swine (H1N1) vaccine.  The H1N1 vaccine is not intended to replace the seasonal flu vaccine; it is intended to be along-side the seasonal flu vaccine.

2. Pregnant women are at higher risk for complications from the flu and can potentially provide protection to infants who cannot be vaccinated.

3. Remember H1N1 is contagious and spreads human to human through coughing or sneezing by people with influenza; also from touching a surface or object with flu virus such as the mouth or nose.

Symptoms

1. Fever ( > 100.0), cough, sore throat, body aches, chills, fatigue; some reports of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
