Sexual assault and date rape
Rape is the crime of forcing sexual intercourse with someone without that person’s consent. Such an assault can be made by a stranger or, in some cases of date rape, by a well-known acquaintance. But whoever the purpetrator, rape is a violent act that can cause great emotional and physical injury.
Experts believe that date rape happens because of sex role stereotypes, poor communication, and learned violence. Many men believe they should be aggressive with women, while others fail to understand women’s sexual intentions. But whatever the cause, rape can leave the person feeling guilty, scared, and depressed.
While only a rapist can prevent rape, there are some steps you can take to protect yourself. You should express your sexual intentions clearly, avoid secluded places, be aware of alcohol intake, and have your own transportation. On the other hand, you have a right to dress as you please, and you can change your mind at any time.
